And so ends this month’s update in the middle of the chapter, suitably becalmed.
↓ Transcript
Panel 1 [Long shot showing the Valor on a flat sea, her sails limp and sagging without wind. The sun beats down]
Panel 2 [In the captain’s cabin, Barzillai is tying his cravat as Adelaide is tucking the loops of her braids into her bun, looking at her reflection in a small circular mirror]
BARZILLAI:
Seas are dead calm today. It’ll delay our time to the cruising grounds.
ADELAIDE:
At least it’s given us seasick folk a chance to recover.
Panel 3 [Closer shot of Barzillai speaking as he shrugs on his jacket.]
BARZILLAI:
Best get an oar in everyone’s hands while all is still quiet. Make sure they know how to row so we’re not unprepared.
Panel 4 [Adelaide straightening to look away from the mirror as Barzillai looks on, smiling slightly. Adelaide is drawing a shawl over her shoulders.]
ADELAIDE:
Will you be splitting the practice by watches?
BARZILLAI:
You’re learning the rhythm of this place quickly. Yes.
Panel 5 [Barzillai steps out the cabin door, looking over his shoulder at Adelaide as she ties her bonnet]
ADELAIDE:
In that case, I’ll take the opportunity to introduce myself to whoever is left on deck first.
BARZILLAI:
I suppose it's as good a time as any.

At least they’re becalmed early while they still have plenty of provisions.
“Water, water everywhere and all the boards do shrink…” and all that.
Nope, it ain’t dire yet!
They’re not in the straights 😉
Took me a while to get ’round to readin this update but as usual is is *worth* it! Good comedic timing, fun dialogue, and some lovely foreshadowing 🙂
Thank you! There are a number of lil bits of foreshadowing in this one >:]
