EDWARD:
Fin out! That the first whale you killed, sir?

EZRA:
Y...yes.

Panel 3 [Shot over Ezra's shoulder as he looks up at the Captain who's pulled alongside. Barzillai looks a bit disheveled but satisfied, smiling at Ezra as he holds a loop of line in his hand]

BARZILLAI:
Fine work, Mr. Carter. We'll mix up a whole bucket of switchel for you lads. Let's get the thing alongside, now, before it sinks.

    I know a few recipes for that, it’s been made in summer here forever but we don’t call it that, we call it swizzle and it’s particularly good with 151 or ‘pusser’ black rum instead of the vinegar 😉
    There’s a good youtube one about a 17th century version. I can’t remember seeing any whaling references on it but they do mention a lot of ship’s provisioning and cookery in the period and have quite a few clips on that.
