So concludes a conversation, and some once held hopes.
Panel 1 [Close up of Josué grinning and circling his temple with his finger]
JOSUÉ:
Definitely too much salt water.
Panel 2 [Ezra looking slightly angry at Josué]
EZRA:
You asked. I didn't piss on your chickens.
Panel 3 [Josue sits up a bit exasperated, slinging one hand over Ezra's shoulder. Ezra is looking off to the side, still frowning.
JOSUÉ:
Don't get sour. What does it matter? It's all just dreaming anyway. Two hours’ time and we'll be back to whaling til it kills us.
Panel 4 [Shot from behind of the pair of them sitting on the hill, overlooking the town below, Ezra speaking.]
EZRA:
It won't kill any of us if I can help it.

that last line doesn’t make them sound doomed by the narrative at all… really enjoyed the update!

Hm. I wonder what the attrition rate generally was on whalers.

Incredibly high! At the industry’s peak it wasn’t uncommon for whaleships to lose 1/3rd to 2/3rds of the original crew by the end of the voyage. That’s also accounting for death, injury, and sickness, but desertion made up the bulk of crew turnover.
