ADELAIDE:
But I understand how woven your soul is with this whole ordeal.
There’s no way of avoiding it—it’s been part of you longer than I have.

Panel 2 [Adelaide leans her head against Barzillai’s shoulder, resigned as Barzillai broods]

ADELAIDE:
And I’ve learned that one can’t plan futures on a whale ship.
We simply have to see how each day plays out.

Panel 3 [Adelaide turns back to Barzillai, bringing one hand to his chest as she tries to draw him out of himself. She leans in close to him, her nose nearly brushing his, smiling boldly, commandingly.]

ADELAIDE:
But this moment—It’s warm, and lovely, and the air smells sweet.
And for one hour, I demand that your mind is away from that ship entirely.

Panel 4 [Barzillai, smiling, cups her cheeks with his hands]

BARZILLAI:
I willingly surrender.
